A unique, reusable delivery system that promises to optimize cosmetic science and applicator design for results far beyond what creams or wet masks can provide, infusers are the creation of BioMod Concepts. To find out more, Cosmetics Design interviewed Karine Théberge, the company’s CEO and founder.

Théberge launched BioMod Concepts in 2005, and the company is essentially an innovation lab where scientists and designers work in collaboration in an effort to create productive, disruptive solutions.

“Ingenuity is as crucial as science,” Théberge says. “Today’s customers are expecting breakthrough advancement and the beauty industry has been lacking true innovations for many years…. At Biomod we don’t look at optimizing what exists, we think out of the box to build what is needed.”

Here, excerpts of her exchange with Cosmetics Design serve to explain just what infusers are and how the product is poised to become a component of skin care portfolios globally.

Deanna Utroske: BiodMod had previously called these Balm Masks. What’s behind your decision to rename?

Karine Théberge:

Even though our products have some of the same shapes as masks, our infusers are totally different in terms of their properties, their action mechanism, and their benefits.

A mask describes what the product is, something that lies superficially onto the face and provides short term results.

Infuser describes what the product does. Our infusers restore and rejuvenate the skin by infusing fundamental nutrients along with active ingredients deep within the stratum corneum.

The combination of the textile base and the imprinted formula balm creates the power behind and solidifies the efficacy of our system.

Biomod’s infusers can be formulated to be used on multiple areas of the body and for an array of skin conditions or concerns by infusing deeply into the cutaneous barrier nutrients and actives, with a prolonged 6 to 8 hours release.

Deanna Utroske: Explain the imprinted tech that delivers active ingredients?

Karine Théberge:

Our proprietary On2 printing technology is a patented process, allowing us to imprint BMVs onto virtually any fabric. This dry-application process leaves a precise and visible balm that can be shaped into any design, pattern or logo and, tailored for site-specific action or multi-functional applications.

Deanna Utroske: Are there limitations or hazards of using this tech for skin care applications?

Karine Théberge:

Absolutely not, on the contrary, we are able to work with natural products and our formulas contain no water, eliminating any worries of bacterial contamination. Our fabrics are also free of chemical dyes and treatments.

Deanna Utroske: Can any skin care active be applied using an infuser?

Karine Théberge:

So far, we have not encountered actives we were not able to integrate into our system, even the most sensitive actives can be up-loaded and preserved.

Deanna Utroske: How is the new infuser category progressing?

Karine Théberge:

Biomod’s clients will be bringing these revolutionary infusers to the consumer market as a new, revitalizing offering within their skincare portfolio.

Most recently, the launch of Nannette de Gaspé skincare brand at Selfridges in the UK, leads the way in getting consumers to experience our disruptive technology and to discover the benefits of deep penetrating, regenerative, effortless, water-free skincare.

New launches are scheduled for late 2016 and early 2017, and we are in development with virtually all key players and brands in the market for 2017 and beyond.
