The ‘safer skin care and cleaner cosmetics’ company announced today that John Replogle will join the board of Counter Brands, the parent company of Gregg Renfrew’s Beautycounter.

John Replogle is CEO of Seventh Generation, the environmentally conscious household and personal care brand that Unilever bought last year. And as of today, he’s on the board of Counter Brands.

“He joins current board members including Mike Stone, Bill Schwartz, Bryan Wolf, Candice Kislack, and Margot Fooshee,” as the press release announcing this news notes.

Natural business

Unilever upped its stake in the natural home and personal care businesses with the acquisition of Seventh Generation last September. This addition to Unilever’s product portfolio will help us meet rising demand for high-quality products with a purpose,” explained Nitin Paranjpe, president of Unilever’s home care business.

Also at the time of the deal, Replogle described the brand he leads this way: “For 28 years, Seventh Generation has been creating products that are not only effective but also designed with environmental and human health in mind while demonstrating that business can have a greater purpose, serving not just profit but people and the planet as well,” as Cosmetics Design reported.

Greater purpose

It’s that sort of thinking—that business can have a greater purpose—that helped land Replogle on the Beautycounter board.

“John possesses an unparalleled depth of knowledge and experience from his time with successful businesses focused on making significant social impact,” Beautycounter founder and CEO, Gregg Renfrew tells the press.

She goes on to say that, “I am thrilled to add yet another like-minded visionary to Beautycounter's Board of Directors, and we are confident that this step will serve to continue the advance for our movement for cleaner, safer, beauty.”

All the same, Replogle’s seat on the board makes for an interesting alliance between a conventional multinational personal care company and a newer more progressive venture.
