Sustainable farming method found for vegetable oil
A report by US botanicals company Natural Plant Products on vegetable oil cultivation has proposed a sustainable method of production for the key cosmetics ingredient.
Vegetable oil is increasingly essential for beauty products: the report states that 5% growth in vegetable oils is expected per year in personal care alone in Europe, Japan, China and North America.
Sustainable production of the ingredient is becoming a focus: the company claims its crop rotation method will allow significantly reduced soil erosion and energy consumption with better quality water index values than comparable models.
“It is imperative that personal care and cosmetics manufacturers look to partner with farming organizations that have long-term visions for sustainable growth and transparent supply chains,” said Mike Martinez, CEO of NPP.
