The monthly magazine covering news about growing US businesses has issued its latest 5000 list, a roster of “the fastest-growing private firms in America” and the entrepreneurs behind them.

The Inc. 5000 list for this year includes beauty and personal care brands that run the gamut: a socially conscious personal care brand, a digital-first cosmetics brand, a direct sales brand, a ‘chemical-free’ skin care brand, an alternative fragrance maker, and more.

Topping the list

SoapBox is in the top 500 brands on this year’s Inc. list (at number 472). Co-founded by CEO David Simnick, the company sells bar soaps, liquid soaps, hair care, and body care. Basically, SoapBox operates on what could be called the Tom’s shoe model. “SoapBox is a social mission personal care company that has tripled growth every year since its founding in 2010,” explains the company site. “For every product the company sells, a bar of soap or month of clean water is donated to a person in need in the U.S. or around the world.”

The Inc. 5000 page highlighting SoapBox lists the company’s 2016 revenue at $3m and tracks its 3-year growth at 942%. SoapBox is headquarter in Washington, DC, and currently employs 9 people. SoapBox products retail at Walmart, Walgreens, Rite Aid, Meijer, ShopRite, and similar retailers across the US.

Rounding it out

Marlena Stell’s Makeup Geek is number 635 on the Inc. 5000. Her ecommerce site sells Makeup Geek brand color cosmetics. It also includes both video and photo tutorials as well as an ideas gallery of social media generated images and lists of the Makeup Geek products used to create each featured look.

Makeup Geek, a Jackson, Mississippi – based company brought in $20.3m in revenue last year and boasts a 3-year growth figure of 712%, according to Inc.

The direct-sales brand Juenesse Global (which sells skin care and supplements) made the list, at number 867 with a reported $1335.9m in revenue for 2016.

Vegan skin care brand Primal Life Organics, led by Trina Felber and headquartered in Copley, Ohio, in on the list at 1699. The company’s top selling products include natural deodorants, facial skin care, and oral care products, according to their own ecommerce site.

Poo~Pourri is on this year’s list at number 1888. Suzy Batiz’s company may seem like it belongs in the home care sector. But as category lines get increasingly blurred products like Poo~Pourri and its competitor Pottymints are showing up at beauty industry tradeshows and being featured as fragrance innovations in beauty industry publications (beyond Cosmetics Design).

This is the seventh year EO Products has made the Inc. 5000. The company (built around EO, or essential oils) sells personal care, bath care, and body care. Susan Griffin-Black co-founded the company in 1995 and last year EO Products brought in $33m in revenue.

Image Skincare makes some 12+ brands of skin care “that are free of parabens, petrochemicals, and preservatives and are not tested on animals.” Janna Ronert’s Palm Beach, Florida – based company reported $52.6m in revenue last year and ranks 3909th on the Inc. list.
