2015 Cosmetics Compliance Seminar secures more expert speakers
The 2015 Cosmetics Compliance Seminar is just around the corner, with the final speaker line up now including experts in the fields of CARB and the California Safe Cosmetics Act.

Promoted with the strapline: “Looking Good in the Eyes of the Law”, the event will now include presentations from Dr. David Edward and Dr. Paula Johnson, who join a long list of industry experts presenting at the Marine’s Memorial Club and Hotel, in San Francisco, California, from April 17 - 18.

Dr. Edwards is manager of the Consumer Products Implementation Section in the Air Quality Planning and Science Division of ARB, and will give an overview of CARB’s Consumer and Commercial Products Survey, describing the rationale, applicability and scope of the Survey, according to the organizers. 

Dr. Paula Johnson, a research scientist and head of the California Safe Cosmetics Program at the California Department of Public Health, will discuss the details of SB 484 and its impact on the cosmetics industry. 

Essential regulation and litigation updates

The event will be chaired by Angela Diesch, law practitioner, cosmetic industry regulatory expert, and a shareholder in the Kronick law firm, who will also be heading up two question-and-answer sessions as well as a panel discussion on global regulatory concerns.

Diesch’s presentation topics will include organic certification, an up-date on various legislations - including the California Transparency in Supply Chains Act, as well as a two-part presentation on Labeling 101 and Risk of Consumer Class Action.

The event has also confirmed Curt Valva, who will be the emcee for the seminar. Valva has a distinguished career in the cosmetics industry, which includes joining Aubrey Organics in 2000 as its Chief Operating Officer.

Valva is also an active participant in the Organic Trade Association Personal Care Task Force and recently served on the Board of Directors of the Natural Products Foundation, where he has been instrumental in the development of standards for natural cosmetics (NPA) and the Natural Standard for Home Care products. 

Full program of presentations from leading experts

The complete program will include a total of 11 presentations on various aspects of cosmetics regulation, including California laws, trademark and intellectual property, distributor agreements, safety assessments, the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act, Canadian regulation, and the Sunscreen Innovation Act.

Other confirmed speakers will include Gordon Greenwood, managing partner of Maclaren Corlett, Gay Timmons, founder of Oh, Oh Organic, Peg Carew Toledo, partner with the Toledo Don LLP and Ilene Block and Jennifer Scott, also from the Kronick Moskovitz Tiedmann & Girard law firm.
