Nagase acquires Fitz Chem Corporation

Nagase acquires Fitz Chem Corporation

The global specialty chemical distributor is deliberately and incrementally expanding its business in the US, and the acquisition of Fitz Chem gives the company a strong position in the Midwest.

Fitz Chem serves several industries, distributing coatings, adhesives, sealants, etc. The company also serves the plastics industry as well as the personal care industry.

In cosmetics and personal care, the company works with suppliers including Akzo Nobel; BASF and that company’s pigment division BASF Colors & Effects; Elementis Specialties; Imerys Talc, Imerys Kaolin, Imerys Mica, etc.; and GH Chemicals.

Fitz Chem’s distribution territory spans 21 states. The company employs over 40 people and serves more than 1,400 customers.

Better together

Nagase’s global business is well-established in Japan and is growing not only in the US but also in China, Southeast Asia, India, the Middle East, and beyond.

“This acquisition allows NAGASE to combine its technical expertise and existing supplier and customer relationships with those of Fitz Chem, creating opportunities for sustained growth in the US market,” Bradley Hilborn, director of sales and marketing at Nagase America, says in a media release about the deal.

“Both organizations are committed to helping suppliers and customers exceed their goals,” adds Hilborn.

Commercially conscientious

In agreeing to an acquisition Fitz Chem made sure to partner with a company that would improve the business and not add any friction to the mix. “Continuity was extremely important to our Fitz Chem management team,” Robert Becker, chairman of Fitz Chem, tells the press.  “We wanted a long-term partner that focused on providing growth opportunities for our employees, one that would not create any conflicts for our suppliers, and lastly one that would provide additional resources to assist our customers in growing their businesses.”

“In teaming with NAGASE, we strongly believe we will be able to achieve these objectives,” says Becker.  “It truly is incredibly thrilling to join forces with a company like NAGASE and create a win-win-win for our employees, customers and suppliers. NAGASE and Fitz Chem’s values and passion to succeed are unequivocally aligned.”
